Canon Mac Senior Portraits

May 4, 2010

My new tag line for this year’s senior portraits is “Get Your Own!”  I really believe that each High School Senior I photograph has totally awesome and unique qualities that make them special. I strive to bring that out in the image I shoot and aim to give them an experience they will never forget.

If you are looking to have a senior portrait session like no one else, call me and we will plan your one-of-a-kind session. This is YOUR time to be in the spotlight and really make a statement about who YOU are. Don’t settle for the same pose by the same prop as your friend.

I love that my clients call me to do such awesome sessions and that they are so willing to try all my crazy ideas.

I’m totally pumped to share this senior session of Cody. Cody is currently a Senior. He’s pretty easy going, seems to be up for trying new things, and totally knows how to ride. This guy was doing jumps and poppin’ wheelies (spelling?) for me to catch on camera. I had him jumping the bike about 15 times, and he still had the energy for more…I could tell how much he loves to ride.  I think you will too once you see these images. Enjoy!

Ready to Ride….

I liked this shot in BW because it’s more like a painting with all the awesome motion blur.

Thought this was a freakin’ sweet pose

You know it’s Winter in Pittsburgh when…

February 4, 2010

You know it’s Winter in Pittsburgh when…

…your local Giant Eagle parking lot is empty at 5pm on a weekday or Noon on Sunday.

You know it’s either, the day before a Steeler Game, Spring/Summer, or a random Winter day above 50 when…

…your local Giant Eagle parking lot is filled with petite, attractive, sports mom’s, driving enormous SUVs, buzzing through the aisle, whipping in parking spaces, and forty million people of all ages are crossing the cross walk in 10 different directions holding up traffic because EVERYone knows we are SUPPOSED to yield to pedestrians…right?

I’ve come to realize that the reason the grocery parking lot is SO nuts on our random warm Winter days here in Pittsburgh is because everyone else is sick of being cooped up inside too and can’t wait to catch even a few rays of sunshine…especially because we know it will be short-lived til May.

Just wanted to share my amusement in how we tend to hibernate in Pittsburgh during Winter…believe me, I’m totally on the hibernation bandwagon. So, here is my “You know Dana is…when.”

You know Dana is SICK of  Winter when….

She wastes your time writing a random blog post, can’t stop complaining about the cold weather, being cooped up, AND posts an image that just makes the reality of Pittsburgh weather even more “not fun.”

Actually…I got on the weather tangent to lead into my next post…check back tomorrow for that one. 🙂  It has nothing to do with weather or Barbados, but it IS a little different… 🙂

Oh, and one more bit of irony…as I finish this post…I see the sun is actually peeking through on this Winter day in Pittsburgh… 🙂

Peters Township High School Senior ~ Pittsburgh Photographer

October 23, 2009

Two sneak peaks. Lots more to come still from the summer!

I met Peters Township High School Senior, “S.” through a networking group I belong to. I was walking into the meeting a few weeks ago and George, one of the other members, asked me if I’d be able to do his daughters high school senior portraits. We had a date all lined up and poor “S.” got bronchitis the week of our shoot. PLUS the weather was just yucky and cold. SO, we re-scheduled and it turned out to be THE most PERFECT Fall day! The weather was gorgeous, the temperature was comfortable, and I had a great subject to work with. “S’s” mom and “Beau” came along for the shoot and added to the fun. More to come later from this shoot and others.

p.s. If you need a Home Inspector or may need one in the future, George is AWESOME at his job!

The second senior, below, is the brother of one of my May 2009 brides. It was fun getting to hang out with them again and they chose a fun location (downtown Pittsburgh) for the session. Big thanks to Jake and his mom for asking me to do his Senior Portraits; it was a special privilege.

Lauren~Thomas Jefferson High School Senior Portraits

October 14, 2009

Two quick images from my shoot with Miss Lauren on Tuesday. Seriously, I did NOTHING to her skin! Just wait until I get to post more images. Lauren has the most beautiful porcelain skin, and the best personality and a great spirit about her. We had a blast with her shoot because she came full of ideas AND was willing to be creative trying anything.  Lauren has the sweetest personality and I’m so happy that our mom’s work together because otherwise I may not have met her. Enjoy these images. I found it easy to capture her natural beauty. Good Luck Lauren! I know you’ll be successful in your future!

Bride&Groom Session Turns to Trash the Dress {Pittsburgh Wedding Photographer}

I photographed Jennifer & Dave wedding last October. Jennifer has given me quite a few wedding referrals since she booked me in 2007. I rely on “Word of Mouth” for almost all my business and I think it’s very important for me to say, “Thank You” to my clients with some type of reward.  This fun photo shoot was my way of saying “Thank You,”  and really, I think they just helped me out even more adding some great pictures to my portfolio. Jennifer and Dave are leaving the country in just a couple days for a new job and ventures together as Newlyweds. I’m so excited for them, but I’ll miss seeing them here and there for coffee, lunch, dinner, etc.  Special THANK YOU! to Jennifer for all her support and to both Jennifer & Dave for being such fun, willing, and spontaneous subjects! I’ll miss you lots, I’ll definitely be keeping you in my prayers, and will be sure to stay in touch.

So the shoot started out at Piper’s Pub on the South Side. Then we made our way to Oakland where we made stops at Schenley Park, Carnegie Mellon University, then the fountain across from The Cathedral of Learning. As you’ll see below, our Bride & Groom Session turned into a Trash the Dress (Kilt:) Session at the end. Enjoy!

High School Senior: Renee-PT {Pittsburgh Photographer}

July 30, 2009

Renee literally rocked out her Senior Session! The shoot started at 6:30pm and the light was absolutely PeRfEcTTT! We couldn’t have had better lighting and the first place we started offered a sparkling opportunity…

K, so, I have this big white foam core board that I keep in my car (used as a reflector, esp. when it’s super bright or kinda dark). If you haven’t already heard me talk about it on a photo shoot or at a wedding well, “It’s my high tech, ‘break the bank,’ investment…” LOL, right? I know it’s probably a corny photographer joke or something, but I love that it totally works and I paid about 97 cents for it or something…..K, so, anyway, I brought it along and asked Renee’s mom to be my assistant for some of the shots. The first place we decided to take pictures was on a narrow wooded path next to the lake. There was a large tree and the way I wanted to  take the picture was sort of a problem. Why? Well, that “PeRfEcTTT” light was aimed right at the center of my lens.  The solution? Use the awesome high tech foam core to direct the light onto Renee’s pretty little face! Here was the result:

reneept104blog

I’m pretty certain this was probably a “you had to be there” and “Dana’s a nerd” moment for anyone else to be as excited about the outcome, but I just thought I’d share  with anyone interested in learning a basic photography trick. 🙂

Moving on…So, after the “fun reflecting” we had some fun with different looks, props, and shots. Here is the rest of Renee’s photoshoot with her music video at the end. Congratulations Renee! Thanks for being such a fun subject to photograph! Good luck in your senior year and in college!
