Jessica & Jeremy {Chicago Wedding Photography}

April 26, 2010

Ever meet someone you knew you’d be friends with for the rest of your life?  I have.

In the Spring of 2003 I was a senior in high school. My parents and I made a trip to Olivet Nazarene University for my college visit and cheerleading tryouts.  At cheerleading tryouts I met Jessica. I was instantly drawn to her personality and passion for Christ and remember thinking “I think this girl is going to be a great friend.”  Although she was trying out for cheerleading too, she hadn’t made her final decision to attend Olivet. I remember leaving tryouts hoping she would decide to come to Olivet. These thoughts seemed sort of random to me, but I would soon learn that it was God that put her in my life to become one of my best college friends.

Jessica decided to come to Olivet and we cheered together for two years. During that time we also started doing a bible study together and it was one of the best things I ever decided to do in college. We met every Friday for breakfast and bible study for almost the entire four years at Olivet. Needless to say, we went through practically every low and every high, every boy drama, every success, etc.  My friendship with Jessica is truely one of my most cherish relationships. She has really challenged me in my faith, and I know my life would be a lot different without her.

Since graduating in 2007 Jessica and I have continued to keep in touch and fortunately (since my brother is currently attending Olivet) we get to see each other a couple times a year. I was very excited when she called to tell me she was engaged.

Jessica and Jeremy are both teachers. Some of the other teachers at Jessica’s school (including Jeremy’s mom) had been scheming for some time to get the two together. “Just by chance” they ended up being the two chaperons for one of the school events. That is where their story began…:0)

Jessica and Jeremy both have a passion for the Lord. Jeremy coaches football and baseball (and I should mention Jessica says he is a big Cubs fan). As you can imagine, I only want the best for my friend, and I think she found him. Jeremy is a great compliment to her, and I can tell he cares for her very much.

Jessica and Jeremy, I’m so thrilled for you both! Thank you so much for asking me to capture such a special time. Can’t wait to be in the wedding! Love you lots, Dana

Courtney & Travis {Destination Wedding Pittsburgh Photographer}

December 3, 2009

Bet you’ll never guess where this location is…go on…try to guess (you can peak below for the answer…:-)

Courtney is a college friend of mine. Our most memorable moment would probably dancing in ONU Star Search and the hours we spent perfecting our Moon Walk for the competition. lol.  Fast Forward a little…I knew OF Travis, but didn’t have the opportunity to meet him until August when we did their Engagement Session (another one of those awesome blogs I have yet to have time to blog). I could go on and on about how awesome of a couple they are AND how awesome they are as individuals.  Courtney and Travis both have solid relationships with the Lord, which is reflected in their relationship with each other. Their ceremony was one of the most sacred and beautiful ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed-lots of happy tears, smiles, and laughter. It was, seriously, like a movie when the doors were opened for Courtney to walk down and the expression on Travis’s face was priceless! I’m still in awe of the moment. I’m excited to describe it in more detail when I post more images from the entire day. Courtney and Travis are truly a great example of  a Godly relationship, and I admire the example they set for their family,friends, and me. Courtney and Travis, I’m so grateful and blessed to have been a witness to your day of celebration together. Thank you so much for allowing me to capture it all! Lots of Love, Dana

(more images to come from this wedding in the new year, but here are a couple to give a VERY small taste of how ROCKIN’ these images turned out–thanks to some great and willing subjects-hehe.)

Jennifer & Michael- Pittsburgh Wedding Photography

December 2, 2009

Michael Williams is a peer photographer of mine. He second shot with me a couple times this year. He’s a talented photographer and a hard worker. I will not be shooting his wedding but I had the pleasure of meeting his fiancé, Jennifer, and doing an engagement session with them. Jennifer is so cute and sweet and Michael, well…Jen and I shared some amusement at how “into” the location scouting Michael was. All in all it was a great night with lots of fun shots on Pittsburgh’s North Shore and around the Strip District. Here are a couple sneak previews. Jennifer and Michael, I pray that God will bless your relationship and marriage (and your own little family some day too!:) More on their story and shots from the shoot at a later date!

Brittany & Josh

August 26, 2009

I’ve noticed a trend among my Bride and Groom clients. Totally sweet, fun, down to earth, and GENUINE! In fact, I think I’ve used those words to describe some of my couples on the blog. Well, what else can I say when it’s so true and I feel like the luckiest photographer ever! Brittany and Josh are no exception to this theme of great couples I’ve had this summer.

I met Brittany & Josh last year at the Panera in Washington and left thinking we’d make a great vendor-client fit (if you know me or have met with me about photography, this is something that I think is very important for both vendor and client). I was very excited when I got the news that they wanted to hire me as their photographer.  We immediately began brainstorming ideas for a Fall Engagement Session.  We met up in Canonsburg and I rode with them to the beautiful, Schenley Park. I also brought an old trunk to use as a prop. Sometimes I come up with some strange ideas or props and I don’t always know exactly what I’m going to do with it or if it will work, but fortunately Brittany & Josh were willing to try something different and have fun with it.  My philosophy is, “If I tried it and it worked, I won’t have any regrets. If I tried it and it was, ‘FAIL,’ I can always look back and laugh at my ‘dorkiness’.” ANYWAY, back to the story… That fall day, we ended up with some really awesome shots and the trunk provided for some fun. I’ll have to add an e-session image to this post later.

Now let me just share what I’ve been excited to share about Brittany & Josh and their wedding.  They MADE almost all the details for their wedding. As I go, I’ll tell you all the DIYs then post a picture.  It’s too clever not to share with those looking for creative DIYs AND I’ll just brag on Brittany and Josh about it because they should get the credit for it. Their invitations are completely hand made, by them-even the pockets!

Josh’s cuff links held photos of loved ones. This shot was taken by my assistant Jerry Scheller…(a.k.a “little” brother-I say “little” because he’s clearly taller than me)

We got arrested for taking pictures after the ceremony.

JK. (yeah, I just typed ‘JK’ and I’m not changing it even if I get made fun of for still using it).  This was totally not staged; he just walked right up took their hands and cuffed ’em. :0) Fortunately, Josh actually knew the security guard at W&J and he was kind enough to remove the handcuffs and allow us in Old Main, which was great because Josh had the idea of using the totally awesome staircase for the image that follows. How many times can I use the word “totally?”

At some point I will be posting a gallery with the rest of Brittany’s DIYs from the reception.

Congratulations Brittany and Josh! Thanks so much for allowing me to be on the sidelines. Looking forward to hearing about all the new and exciting things to come in your new married life!
