Pittsburgh Graphic Designer ~Spring Wedding Centerpiece

August 29, 2010

This centerpiece was not from a wedding, but my friend Lauren and I had to decorate a table for our  WBN charity event. She and I collaborated on our table concept and design. I thought some of you Brides might enjoy the centerpiece and color scheme we came up with. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

THE BREAKDOWN:

The books are from a thrift store. They were $1.99 but if you go to an estate sale you can get them cheaper!

The flowers and vases are from Michael’s Crafts (totaled around $8 for all of that).

The pieces at the bottom and right are custom bookmarks- a collaborative graphic design between my intern (a.k.a. brother) and myself. The bookmarks were designed with inspiration from the fabric and a little button (purchased at Joanne Fabrics) to add a little touch of vintage charm.

The fabric squares are from Joanne Fabrics. For a wedding you may want to finish the edges by sewing them OR attaching the same ribbon around the trim of each fabric square to tie it all together. The fabric can be re-purposed for many things. One thought I had was to place them in a 10×10 matted frame for home decor.

This entire table decor, centerpiece, and favor was done for under $30.

Sabika Fashion Show ~ Pittsburgh Fashion Photographer

August 28, 2010

Thanks to a good friend of mine, I had a great opportunity to shoot for the Mayr family business, Sabika, Inc. I can’t say enough about how wonderful their family is and how impressive the company is as well. I’ve never seen a business able to carry such quality representatives from top to bottom. I’ll post more images from the shoot soon, but here is a quick sample video.

Be sure to check out Sabika’s website and if you are looking for a consultant to purchase any of their beautiful products, drop me a line or contact Sabika.

Sarah and Keith ~ Pittsburgh Wedding Photographer

Sarah and Keith were married in May. They kicked off my 2010 wedding season with totally awesome venues, details, and personalities.  I met Sarah and Keith at a Starbucks in early 2009 and we had an instant connection (something I always look for at consultations).  The more they told me about their wedding, the more excited I got. And when they asked if I did “Trash the Dress” sessions, I knew they were going to be a fun couple to get to know…I had hoped they would hire me as their photographer.

Keith, Sarah, and I kept in touch throughout 2009-2010 via Fracebook and email. One day in early 2010 I was shooting a High School Senior portrait session in a random alley when Sarah jogs by.  Then she stopped, went back and said, “Dana?”  I was excited to run into her like that BUT what was even more exciting is that I found out she lived near there AAAANNNDDD it just so happens that where I was shooting is right down the road from where I will be moving soon. SO I’m very very excited to say the Keith, Sarah, and I will practically be neighbors here in a few weeks! Just goes to show how small our world is and that you never know how life will play out! :)

Congratulations Neighbors!!!!

Special thanks to Robin for being an AWESOME second shooter (and friend). Some of the images in this gallery are hers! :)

Peters Township Senior Portraits

April 16, 2010

Once again, I had an opportunity to photograph an awesome high school senior. I’m so excited for Senior Portrait season this year. I’m really hoping to meet lots of new kids/young adults and hopefully rock out their time in the spotlight!

One thing I thought was really neat about all my 2010 Peters Township girls this year is that all of them had so much personality, really sweet hearts, and some type of friendship connection with each other in some way shape or form.

Kaitlin is no exception to my awesome seniors, I think you’ll see how sweet she is through the images. Enjoy!

Peters Township Senior Portraits

February 4, 2010

Katie was another one of my 2009 reps. I went to High School with Katie’s brother (who is also my birthday buddy: ), Doug ( Contact Doug if you need direction on investments, insurance, he’s a great “go to” guy).

I was extremely excited when I arrived at the property she chose for her shoot…I think we could have done a million things there, which is why I ended up with a great variety of shots.  Here are her images. Enjoy!

Who said senior portraits can’t have a unique crop? I wanted to do this shot to highlight her gorgeous eyes.

one of my FAVS!

little side note about this last image…I wish there was a hidden camera on us to document our reactions to what happened right after this image was shot. Well…since it wasn’t documented, I’ll tell you about it (I know, you didn’t think I was going to offer to tell the story did you? But…)

K. So I got this shot, then Katie stood up. We were standing there in the *tall grass* that had been all *smooshed down*. As we were talking about the next shots, I thought I felt something move a little underneath the grass where my foot was planted. I stood still for a second to see if I felt anything move again. When I didn’t feel anything, I, being the genius that I am, thought I’d put just a *VERY* slight pressure down on where my foot was to see if something moved.

I definitely felt something move.

The next 30 seconds was like TOTAL SLOW MO! So, I slowly turn my head to the left, look down, and see a dark, little, pointed head sticking out of the grass. (This is where my brain froze).

I could feel my brain processing:

Hmm.

Yep.

Something moved.

Oh.

There it is.

It’s dark.

Little.

Pointy Head.

Oh, it’s a chipmunk.

No Dana.

You’re an idiot.

That’s a.

Black Snake.

(****insert SCREAMING Bloody Murder and running the most GIRLY BOLT! I’ve ever made***)

Then hyperventilation followed by uncontrollable laughter and disbelief….

You’re probably thinking…”disbelief? that’s a little melodramatic.” Well, yeah, but I can’t tell a story without melodrama. Disbelief . Because I never thought I could sound and act SO GIRLIE! All my life I’ve been a “tomboy” and totally “tough” when it comes to spiders, and snakes (kind of…), but I never thought I was capable of such a reaction.

Now I know.

So back to WHY I wish it was recorded. Two reasons:

1. That was a “you had to be there” story.

2. Katie and I could have probably won a lot of money on AFV!

I’d love to hear any funny stories you have…so, comment away! :)
