Baked Beans and a Pig Roast Invitation Design {Pittsburgh Graphic Designer; Pittsburgh Wedding Invitations}

May 19, 2010

On Sunday, May 2, 2010 I tasted the best baked beans I’ve ever had in my life.  I know I’m a melodramatic person but just ask my parents, and they will agree with me on the baked beans.

The most amazing baked beans I’ve ever tasted were made by Pittsburgh Caterer, Bart Duva, of Bart’s Catering & Fine Foods. But let me also interject that Bart is not your average caterer. Bart is a very skilled, personable, and artistic chef who cooks MUCH more than a mean baked bean.  I learned this after experiencing a food tasting at his facility.

My oldest brother, Jeremy, is getting married at the end of this month (May 29th!:). His fiancé, Lyndsey, loved the idea of having a pig roast for the rehearsal dinner. Lyndsey’s aunt recommended a caterer (Bart Duva) she has used for various events. So, my parent’s and I had the pleasure of attending a tasting hosted by Bart and his friendly staff.   (**SIDE NOTE: Ironically, last summer, I stumbled upon Bart’s website and was totally sold even before I tasted any of his food. His website was resourceful, filled with pictures, and his menus had a creativity unlike any other caterer I’ve seen in the Pittsburgh area- I’ll touch more on that later…) As you can imagine, I was pretty excited when I found out that BART was the caterer Lyndsey’s aunt recommended.

We tasted so many amazing types of food like delicious spreads, awesome homemade salad dressing, pulled pork and roasted pork, incredible! potato and macaroni salad (seriously, I’m very picky about those two things and Bart’s recipe was out of this world!). We also tried his seafood boil-which gave me the opportunity to try some new things I’ve never had before. These were just the main dishes. Bart had a variety of sauces and sides to accompany his already delectable creations. The food had so much depth and flavor (this review is killing me! I’m so glad I get to have this food again in a couple weeks!). I could go on and on.

I’m no food connoisseur but let’s face it, I love food. The things, I believe, that set Bart apart from any other catered food (as well as restaurant cuisine) I’ve had are several things:
-Flavor
-Creativity of presentation and creative use of flavor
-Bart’s down-to-earth and genuine personality
-Bart’s ability to understand the type of event, the mood of the event, and how client’s want their guests to feel
-Themed menus
-Variety in his menu
-Ability to customize a menu to fit his client’s needs

So, when you plan your next event, do not hire just any caterer. Hire someone who becomes a friend, has the skills of a talented chef, and has the name, Bart Duva.  You won’t be disappointed.

Next Month I’ll post pictures of Jeremy and Lyndsey’s Pig Roast Rehearsal Dinner because once you see the food, you’ll want to taste it.

Find Bart’s Catering and Fine Foods online at:  http://www.bartscatering.com
You can also find him on Facebook.

Canon Mac Senior Portraits

May 4, 2010

My new tag line for this year’s senior portraits is “Get Your Own!”  I really believe that each High School Senior I photograph has totally awesome and unique qualities that make them special. I strive to bring that out in the image I shoot and aim to give them an experience they will never forget.

If you are looking to have a senior portrait session like no one else, call me and we will plan your one-of-a-kind session. This is YOUR time to be in the spotlight and really make a statement about who YOU are. Don’t settle for the same pose by the same prop as your friend.

I love that my clients call me to do such awesome sessions and that they are so willing to try all my crazy ideas.

I’m totally pumped to share this senior session of Cody. Cody is currently a Senior. He’s pretty easy going, seems to be up for trying new things, and totally knows how to ride. This guy was doing jumps and poppin’ wheelies (spelling?) for me to catch on camera. I had him jumping the bike about 15 times, and he still had the energy for more…I could tell how much he loves to ride.  I think you will too once you see these images. Enjoy!

Ready to Ride….

I liked this shot in BW because it’s more like a painting with all the awesome motion blur.

Thought this was a freakin’ sweet pose

Jessica & Jeremy {Chicago Wedding Photography}

April 26, 2010

Ever meet someone you knew you’d be friends with for the rest of your life?  I have.

In the Spring of 2003 I was a senior in high school. My parents and I made a trip to Olivet Nazarene University for my college visit and cheerleading tryouts.  At cheerleading tryouts I met Jessica. I was instantly drawn to her personality and passion for Christ and remember thinking “I think this girl is going to be a great friend.”  Although she was trying out for cheerleading too, she hadn’t made her final decision to attend Olivet. I remember leaving tryouts hoping she would decide to come to Olivet. These thoughts seemed sort of random to me, but I would soon learn that it was God that put her in my life to become one of my best college friends.

Jessica decided to come to Olivet and we cheered together for two years. During that time we also started doing a bible study together and it was one of the best things I ever decided to do in college. We met every Friday for breakfast and bible study for almost the entire four years at Olivet. Needless to say, we went through practically every low and every high, every boy drama, every success, etc.  My friendship with Jessica is truely one of my most cherish relationships. She has really challenged me in my faith, and I know my life would be a lot different without her.

Since graduating in 2007 Jessica and I have continued to keep in touch and fortunately (since my brother is currently attending Olivet) we get to see each other a couple times a year. I was very excited when she called to tell me she was engaged.

Jessica and Jeremy are both teachers. Some of the other teachers at Jessica’s school (including Jeremy’s mom) had been scheming for some time to get the two together. “Just by chance” they ended up being the two chaperons for one of the school events. That is where their story began…:0)

Jessica and Jeremy both have a passion for the Lord. Jeremy coaches football and baseball (and I should mention Jessica says he is a big Cubs fan). As you can imagine, I only want the best for my friend, and I think she found him. Jeremy is a great compliment to her, and I can tell he cares for her very much.

Jessica and Jeremy, I’m so thrilled for you both! Thank you so much for asking me to capture such a special time. Can’t wait to be in the wedding! Love you lots, Dana

Peters Township Senior Portraits

April 16, 2010

Once again, I had an opportunity to photograph an awesome high school senior. I’m so excited for Senior Portrait season this year. I’m really hoping to meet lots of new kids/young adults and hopefully rock out their time in the spotlight!

One thing I thought was really neat about all my 2010 Peters Township girls this year is that all of them had so much personality, really sweet hearts, and some type of friendship connection with each other in some way shape or form.

Kaitlin is no exception to my awesome seniors, I think you’ll see how sweet she is through the images. Enjoy!
